The second and fourth Sunday of every month at 10:30am in classroom 2 our teens participate in a process called R.E.S.T. (rational emotive spiritual therapy). In this process they review real life situations that will help identify negative emotions that they experience. They learn about negative emotions-(fear, stress, anger, stress, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, betrayal, loneliness, etc), how to identify them, slow down their thought process, recognize what they are saying to themselves that is causing the emotion to have them respond in a negative manner. They are taught a process in which they learn to use a Bible scripture to replace the negative thoughts and shift the negative emotion, so that they can achieve a positive outcome.
The R.E.S.T. process teaches our teens to think before they respond and that what they believe will impact their emotional and spiritual well being. We learn and practice to pray for one another, and our desired outcome is that their experiences will empower them to help themselves and someone else. |
